This collection contains the research files compiled by authors working in collaboration with the Jackson County Historical Society, in the production of the book "At the River's Bend: An Illustrated History of Kansas City, Independence, and Jackson County".

Athletic Director's records
This series, from the Athletics Department record group at the University of Kansas, consists of correspondence and related materials from when Forrest C. Allen (better known as Phog Allen) was Athletic Director at the university. The records are organized alphabetically by topic or correspondent's family name. Topics include but are not limited to specific sports; equipment; stadium construction; administrative duties; and associations and clubs in which KU teams competed.
Augustine E. Costello letter
Letter from writer Augustine Costello to his young cousin "Charles", living in Ireland. The collection consists of a single autobiographical letter to this cousin, who also has decided to become a journalist, and is writing for the Freeman.
Austin C. Chapel Civil War diary
This 110-page Civil War diary of Austin C. Chapel, 5th Sergeant of Company G in Wisconsin's 13th Infantry Regiment, chronicles his daily activities in 1863 while guarding Union supplies in Tennessee. Documents which accompany the diary include Chapel's notice of appointment as 5th Sergeant, a 4-page letter written by Chapel in 1862 while posted at Fort Scott, Kansas, and his photograph in uniform.

Ava Higley Milett photographs

Collection includes photograph description and identifications of students and teachers standing outside the schools. Ava Higley Milett appears as a student or teacher in all the photographs.

James and Wilma Babcock owned and operated Babcock Grocery and B and B Beauty Bar in Ottawa, Kansas. This collection contains their business records and personal papers, as well as those of their daughter, Marla Jo Babcock, and James Babcock's mother Nettie.
Backus family newspapers collection
This collection contains newspaper issues and tear sheets, primarily from the Northeast region of the United States, with dates ranging from 1795 to 1870. It reflects the interests of Backus family members who were predominantly lawyers. The family settled in Connecticut in the late 1700s and migrated to upstate New York in the mid-1800s.
Baker University miscellaneous records
This collection contains miscellaneous circular letters, telegrams, administrative forms, memorandums, war department related materials, and periodicals from Baker University. Most of the materials are from the first half of the 20th century.
Balance books from a London trader
Account books of an anonymous speculative trader, providing yearly summary of accounts. Each volume covers a year, and contains a dozen accounts in fair detail and a list of 50 to 100 accounts showing net profit or debit. The "bottom line" is about £50,000. Cargoes largely consist of tropical produce; the trader also imported cheese and butter from Holland into England and had other investments.
